Raw food additions, Soaked Chia Seeds

Updated: Jan 3

These posts are intended to give you information on different foods that can be added to your pet's meals. This option is: Soaked chia seeds.

You only need to give a small amount. Give 1/4 teaspoon daily for every 10 pounds of your dog’s body weight.

Soaking chia seeds makes them easier to digest, and your pet can absorb their nutrients easier this way.

How to do it:

-Soak chia seeds in a 1 to 10 ratio with water; so soak ¼ cup of chia seeds in 2-1/2 cups of water.

-Soak for a little as 30 minutes, up to 2 hours.

-When your “soak” is complete, you’ll have more of a gel mixture.

-You can also grind chia seeds in a coffee grinder (or NutriBullet) to create flour.

What they provide:

Omega 3 Fatty Acids – 3x the amount we find in salmon

Manganese – 2.72 mg per 100 grams of chia seeds

Calcium – 631 grams per serving

Antioxidants

Fiber – 34 grams per serving

Protein – 16.5 grams per serving

Iron – 7.7 mg per 100 g

Magnesium – 335 mg per serving

Phosphorus – 860 mg per serving

Potassium – 407 mg per 100 g

Copper – 0.9 mg per 100 g

Zinc – 4.6 mg per 100 g

Along with the above nutrients, chia seeds offer vitamins A, B, E, and D, as well as niacin, iodine, and thiamine.
